Laboratory of Horticultural Omics Big Data Integration and Utilization
Beijing University of Agriculture · Est. 2020
MOILab was founded in 2020 at Beijing University of Agriculture. Over five years, the lab has trained 18 graduate students and published over 20 papers in journals including Nature Plants, Horticulture Research, Scientific Data, The Plant Journal, and Plant Communications. The lab developed the HortGenome Search Engine (HSE) and several crop-specific genomics databases. Yi Zheng, the founding PI, moved to Yazhouwan National Laboratory in 2025 and continues to collaborate with the lab.

In collaboration with Anhui Agricultural University, KPGD — the first cross-species pangenome platform for Actinidia — was published in Plant Communications. KPGD integrates 55 genome assemblies from 12 species. Available at kiwifruitgenome.atcgn.com.
In collaboration with Prof. Fei Chen at Hainan University, the review "Phased telomere-to-telomere super-pangenome: definitive reference genome in plants" was published in Trends in Plant Science.
Our chestnut genomics database (CGD) was published in Scientific Data. Lab members Jia-Lu Fan, Shang-Xiao Wei, Hai-Xu Peng, Hua Li, and Ming-Jun Zhang contributed. Available at castaneadb.net.
HSE — a universal genomic search engine covering 500+ horticultural crops — was published in Horticulture Research, led by Sen Wang and nearly the entire lab. Try it at hort.moilab.net.
The haplotype-resolved genome assembly of Malus domestica 'Red Fuji' was published in Scientific Data. Lab members Hai-Xu Peng, Ya-Ting Yi, Jin-Rong Li, You Qing, Xu-Yang Zhai, and Yu-Lin Deng contributed.
Chromosomal-level genome assemblies of two crabapple cultivars — 'Flame' and 'Royalty' — published in Scientific Data. Lab members Hua Li, Xu-Yang Zhai, Hai-Xu Peng, You Qing, Yu-Lin Deng, and Shi-Jie Zhou contributed.
Our lab website went online, showcasing research projects, databases, tools, and team members at Beijing University of Agriculture.
In collaboration with Mississippi State University, You Qing led this study on dynamically expressed small RNAs during tomato domestication, with Xu-Yang Zhai also contributing. Published in The Plant Journal.
In collaboration with Anhui Agricultural University, KGD — the Kiwifruit Genome Database — was published in Horticulture Research.
